Other information
The SW 100 DS Illusion of the Isles is the second of a successful mini-series produced by Southern Wind Shipyard. The powerful sail plan and the comfortable yet high performance hull lines have been commissioned to Farr Yacht Design, while the general concept, the interior design and exterior styling of this project have been developed by Nauta Design.
This blue water cruiser combines the advanced composite construction techniques with the traditional carpentry of Southern Wind Shipyard and it is the ideal choice both for family use and luxury charter.
Illusion of the Isles was launched in Cape Town in November 2006.
Hull, Deck and Structures are built in Carbon fibre and Kevlar using the latest infusion techniques and the result is a displacement of merely 59 tons. The considerable weight saving, along with the impressive sail plan of 424 sqmt., it is just a promise for stunning performances, while the carbon rig with swept spreaders and furling boom allows smooth manoeuvring with short-handed crew.
The SW 100 DS combines styling and performance with reliability and safety for comfort and peace of mind during long blue waters sailing.
The deck plan has been designed to allow easy sailing and comfort both to crew and guests. The steering system is split in two wheel pedestals which grant an excellent visibility to the helmsman thus making the aft cockpit an ideal manoeuvring space, while a large sun-bathing area next to the central cockpit allows plenty of room for relaxing and socializing on deck.
Main sail, primary and secondary winches are hydraulically operated. As well as most of the major functions on the SW 100 DS, such as the passerelle, the anchor arm or the transom door which in the open position becomes a practical swimming or boarding platform
The deck house while protecting the central cockpit from the weather, creates a spacious upper and sheltered all-around sight saloon which does not obstruct the visibility from the aft cockpit.
The panoramic Deck Saloon features unobstructed views of the outside and is complemented by a U shaped couch to starboard and a large dining area accommodating 8/10 people to port.
The Owner’s Cabin is located forward. It is the quietest area of the yacht and allows privacy and comfort. The king size bed sits nicely in the centre but does not dominate the entire space. Other features are a corner vanity unit and a double-seated couch.
